Our School- Southeast Guitar Repair Academy is Live!
We have always had at least 5 people stop in or contact us every month asking which luthier school we would recommend. We have dozens of clients over the years asking if we offered any workshops. We have had clients ask if they could pay us to sit in with Barrett and watch him do a setup. And above all, we have continually struggled with finding qualified graduates from every luthier school to staff our shop in the past.
We now have the option available for everyone! Southeast Guitar Repair Academy is an in depth online course that will teach you the repair side to lutherie. We teach you restrings, setups, bone work, fret dresses and the big projects too. We also give ongoing support while you are a student. Even if you have graduated from another lutherie school, we know the usual repair portion from Lutherie schools are not thorough and they don't give you the knowledge to go out and start repairing guitars right away in a shop. Building a guitar and making it play well are 2 different beasts. No matter where you are in the world, you can learn the Southeast Guitar Repair techniques!
We will be accepting a limited number of enrollments.
Whether you are brand new to the repair side or you are struggling with your current repair techniques, our course will help you with the foundations to a successful career in the guitar repair field. Our course tuition is modestly priced compared to in person Luthier Schools, so if you are interested in our course just to maintain your own collection or take on a new hobby in your spare time, this is for you as well! Now is the perfect time to invest in new knowledge.
From our experience in 2020, we bypassed prior years revenue to have our best year yet and we were closed an entire month due to the shutdown in April 2020. It proved to us that consumers wanted to spend money on their instruments during a pandemic. I think we all started putting more value on our hobbies and it was ok to invest in the things that made us happy. Basically, business is booming in the guitar repair industry!

Apprenticeship-
There are times when we look to add on a tech when there is an opening in our shop. To begin as a tech in the shop, we expect every applicant to first step in as an apprentice. Even if you have experience. Before we put you on our client's repairs we make sure you have mastered our techniques and apprenticeship is how we enable you to adapt our techniques. Apprentice will spend 30-40 hours each week apprenticing under master luthier Barrett Culpepper while also completing our school. We will give you free tuition to GuitarRepairAcademy.com and get you certified after training. We are offering our time and teachings to fill a full time bench within our shop. If you are looking for a career outside of the shop, a luthier school or Southeast Guitar Repair Academy will be a better option for you as this apprenticeship is for techs that want to sign on with us. You don't need to have graduated from a luthier school to apply. We prefer a moldable green person that we can teach our shop specific methods to. We will be teaching you from start to finish, all you will need to perform professional Southeast setups, fret dresses, bone work, bridge resets, electronics, refrets and so much more. Woodworking knowledge is a plus. If interested email a resume or intro letter with information about yourself to our shop email at guitarrepair1455@att.net. Ideal candidate will play guitar with good technique but does not have to be an expert player. We save the playing for our clients. We need you to have good problem solving skills, be able to take direction & retain information. You have to be a team player. We need someone that takes pride in their work. We have high standards so if you prefer to cut corners, you won't fit in for long here. Our apprenticeship is unpaid until you begin customer repairs. Some of our best techs had zero experience but were sharp and quick learners. You must be local within a 30 minute drive. You must be available Tuesday - Friday 10am-6pm and on Saturday 10am-4pm. Our current techs all started with apprenticeships with us. They held evening jobs the first couple of months while in apprentice mode, but quickly progressed to client repairs and were able to drop those part time jobs. Having support from a spouse or family is another option. If you are a fast learner and retain information you will move up to client repairs right on schedule. Getting a gig as an apprentice in a guitar shop is a rare opportunity. The master luthier is sacrificing his bench time to teach you his years of methods & secrets. So we expect the apprentices to put in real effort.
